tripswipe: the country tracker app that lights up every country you have visited
tripswipe is a free country tracker app for iPhone and Android: tick off the countries you have visited, watch them light up on a 3D globe, see your percentage of the world and share your travel map.
How many countries have you been to? Most people answer with a guess. tripswipe answers it properly: a free country tracker app where you tick off every country you have visited and watch them light up on a real, turning 3D globe.
We designed and built tripswipe at Olympus ML, and it is live on the App Store and Google Play. This post covers what it does and why we built a travel map this way.
Tick off the countries you have visited
Setting up your map takes about a minute. Search by name or filter by continent, and tap each country you have been to. The list opens on the places people actually travel to rather than in alphabetical order, so the first screen usually already holds half your answer. Each country counts the moment you tap it, with an undo in case you tapped the wrong one, and you can log the cities you visited under each country.
A real 3D globe, not a picture of one
Every country you add lights up on a turning sphere that is properly projected, with real coastlines instead of a pin on a flat image. Touch a country and the globe ripples where your finger lands, flashes that country and tells you its name. If you have not been there yet, add it from the same spot.
Prefer a classic scratch map? The same countries are on a flat world map that you can drag, pinch and double-tap to fit. We wrote up how the globe works in How we built a real 3D globe in React Native.
Your percentage of the world, and a traveler level
tripswipe counts your countries against the 194 UN member states and shows what percentage of the world you have seen. As the number climbs you move up traveler levels, from Wanderer and Adventurer to Explorer, Globetrotter at 25 countries, World citizen at 50 and the Century club at 100. Your profile also shows your progress on each continent.
Share your travel map
Turn your map into a card in a couple of taps: a flat map, the globe, a wall of flags, a lock-screen wallpaper, or a card for the one country you just added. Each comes in story, full-screen or square format, with an optional transparent background.
Private by default, shared with friends you choose
tripswipe has no ads and no tracking. Only friends you accept see the countries you have been to. Sign in with Apple, Google or email, and you can delete your account and everything in it from inside the app. The full details are in the privacy policy.
