HerpBase: a reptile husbandry app for feedings, weights, sheds and racks

HerpBase is a reptile husbandry record keeper for iPhone and iPad: feeding plans, thaw lists, weights, sheds, breeding and visual racks for collections of five animals or five hundred. Works offline.

Anyone who keeps more than a handful of reptiles ends up with a system: a spreadsheet, a notebook, tape on the tubs. HerpBase replaces that with one place for the records of a reptile collection, from feeding plans and thaw lists to weights, sheds and racks, for five animals or five hundred.

We built HerpBase at Olympus ML together with a working reptile shop, and it is live on the App Store for iPhone and iPad. It is free while HerpBase is in testing, and an Android version is coming to Google Play.

Feeding plans and thaw lists

Each animal gets a feeding plan: every N days, a set number of days after the last meal, or on fixed weekdays. Custom foods are tracked by weight, with thaw times. Feeding follows the real routine, thaw then offer then confirm, and only a confirmed feed counts as a meal. Refusals and weight loss are flagged on the home screen, so problems show up before they become serious.

Weights, sheds and health records

Log weights and see the trend, along with sheds, treatments, defecation and regurgitation. Notes keep their earlier revisions, so the history of an animal is never overwritten. Microchip numbers and tags live on the animal’s record.

Visual racks and QR labels

Racks are drawn as drawer grids, coloured by what each animal needs and grouped by room. Print QR labels for racks and animals, then scan a label to open that animal’s record straight away. Swipe and long-press quick actions keep a feeding round fast.

Breeding records

Track pairings, clutches and follicles, along with parents and lineage. HerpBase shows genetics odds only for traits whose inheritance you have declared, rather than guessing.

Built for the reptile room

  • Works offline on every screen, then syncs to your account.
  • Tasks and feeding reminders.
  • Import from a spreadsheet; export the full database or CSV at any time.
  • No ads, no tracking and no analytics. Delete your account from inside the app.

HerpBase is a record keeper. It is not a marketplace, it does not sell animals and it is not veterinary advice.

Under the hood

HerpBase is an Expo and React Native app built offline-first: a local SQLite database is the source of truth on the device, and Supabase handles accounts and sync. A reptile room often has bad signal, so the app never waits for the network to record a feed.
